HAMMONTON—Seeking just its second-ever Blue Devil Invitational Tournament title, host Hammonton High School had to settle for third place, as the Blue Devils lost to Holy Cross before downing Overbrook in the consolation game.
Hammonton let one get away in the opener, as six errors and some baserunning miscues led to a 6-5 loss.

HAMMONTON—Missed opportunities cost Hammonton High School’s softball team a chance to advance in the 27th Annual Hammonton Invitational Softball Tournament last week, as the host school dropped a 5-3 decision to Florence.
Hammonton led 3-0 before Florence rallied for four fifth inning runs to pull out the win.
“Baserunning mistakes and missed opportunities,” Hammonton coach Stacy Jones said.
“We didn’t take advantage of our scoring opportunities.”
