HAMMONTON—According to the Hammonton Police Department, two students of the Hammonton School District will be charged in connection with the January 20 vandalism of buses and the Warren E. Sooy Jr. Elementary School.
Buses and the school were vandalized with black spraypaint. An investigation by Officer Richie Jones and Officer Mark Santora, two school resource officers of the Hammonton Police Department, led to research of school surveillance video, police said.
According to police, a high school student and a middle school student will be charged in connection with the vandalism. Police said the Hammonton Board of Education is also going to address the issue.
“We have a zero tolerance for breaking rules. This is destruction of public property and will not be tolerated. In keeping with our policy, the students are currently suspended pending a board hearing. It is my understanding that there will be some charges pending from the police department. As far as we are concerned, they are students, we expect a certain level of behavior and we will hold everybody to those standards,” Rehmann said.
The names of the individuals were not released by police due to their status as juveniles.
