HAMMONTON—Local and area
residents were injured in a car accident that
occurred at the intersection of 9th Street and
Egg Harbor Road at 8:25 p.m. on February 9,
Hammonton Police Chief Frank Ingemi said.
According to Ingemi, a 2000 Plymouth Neon driven
by Amanda Mascio-Kennedy, 20, of 353 South Chew
Road in Hammonton was traveling north on 9th
Street with passengers Mitchell Mascio, 12, of
Hammonton and David LoDuca, 15 of Folsom.
Ingemi said the car driven by Mascio-Kennedy
collided with a car driven by a Gladys Medina,
52, of Fairview Avenue in Hammonton. Medina was
driving a 1995 green Range Rover westbound on
South Egg Harbor Road, Ingemi said.
Mascio-Kennedy was issued a summons for failure
to yield at the stop sign at 9th Street,
according to Ingemi
The accident is being investigated by Sergeant
Kevin Friel, Ingemi said.
Members of the Hammonton Police Department,
Hammonton Volunteer Fire Department and
Hammonton Rescue Squad responded, Ingemi said.
According to published reports, Mascio, Medina
and LoDuca were taken to Cooper Trauma Center in
Camden for treatment of their injuries. Mascio-Kennedy
was transported to Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Ingemi asked residents to use caution when
driving, particularly in the area of 9th Street
and Egg Harbor Road.
“That seems to be quite a bad intersection,
because we’ve had quite a few bad accidents
there. It is an area where drivers need to be
extra cautious, because it receives heavier
traffic than people might think and people may
be unfamiliar with it,” Ingemi said.
