OBITUARIES

 

 

Mary D. Olivo, 98, of Hammonton, died March 6, 2008, at home.
Born in Hammonton, she was a resident all her life. Mary was a 1937 graduate of Temple University. She taught in the Hammonton school systems for 39 years until her retirement in 1972. After her retirement she was a substitute teacher in the system for 14 years. She was the choir director for St. Joseph church.
Predeceased by: brother, Dr. Matthew A. Olivo. Surviving her are: nephews, Matthew P. Olivo M.D. and his wife Rosemary of Westmont, Anthony
Olivo of Haddonfield; nieces, Emilia Glaes of Auroa, Colo., and Marcia Hamilton of New York City.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on March 10 at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church followed by burial at Greenmount Cemetery.

Sister Filomena Trotta, MPF, 90, died March 6, 2008, at the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Baltimore, Md., Sister Filomena entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1939. She received the habit in 1940 and made her religious profession in 1943. Sister Filomena was awarded an AA diploma by Villa Walsh Normal School, a BS degree in elementary education from Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J. She also earned an MS degree to Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y.
Sister Filomena taught in the following schools in New Jersey: St. Ann, Raritan; Holy Trinity, Long Branch; St. James, Trenton; Holy Family, Nutley; St. Anthony, Red Bank; St. Peter, Merchantville; Our Lady of Libera, West New York; Villa Victoria, Trenton, and St. Joseph, Hammonton. She also taught at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Schenectady, N.Y; St. Bernadette, Brooklyn, N.Y; St. Sebastian, Middletown, CT; St. Patrick-St. Anthony, Hartford, CT; Purification BVM, Ellwood City, PA; St. Nicholas of Tolentine, Philadelphia, PA; St. Anthony, Dunmore, PA; St. Anthony, Akron, OH. Sister Filomena retired at St. Joseph in Hammonton in 1997.
Predeceased by: parents, John Trotta and Mary Beccio. Surviving her are: sisters, Josephine Cole, Marie Petracca both of Colordao, Sister Armanda Trotta, MPF of Hammonton; nieces, Jennifer Cole, Maria Cole; nephew, Andrew Cole from Colorado.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on March 10 in the St. Lucy Chapel, Villa Walsh, Morristown, NJ.

Frank Pagano, 89, of Hammonton, died March 2, 2008, at the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Passaic, he moved to Hammonton 35 years ago. Frank retired from Deer Park Baking in 1980 as a plant manager. He was a member of American Legion Post #186 of Hammonton. He served in the United States Marines during World War II.
Predeceased by: wife, Pauline. Surviving him are: Anthony J. of Hammonton, Frank C. and his wife Donna of Old Bridge, N.J.; grandson, Brian Pagano.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on March 6 at St. Anthony Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Mildred J. Crowder 75, of Goose Creek, S.C. and formerly of Winslow, went home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2008, at home.
Born in Baltimore, she worked at the Hammonton Park Clothes as a seamstress and Mrs. Paul’s in Blue Anchor. Mildred retired from The Playboy Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City in 1994 after 20 years as a security guard.
Surviving her are: children, Ancorn Wilson, Marva Handy both of Sicklerville, Deborah Johnson and her husband Fred of Winslow; sisters, Elise Ann Bourgeois, Dorothea Cook both of Philadelphia, her twin sister Marjorie Grays of Sicklerville; grandchildren, Keith Lyles, Kean Johnson, Jerome Handy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing tonight from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Marinella Funeral Home with funeral services at 7 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Martha Grasso, (nee DeStefano), 82, of Hammonton, died March 6, 2008, at home.
She was born in Hammonton where she resided her entire life. Martha also worked for Whitehall Laboratories for 16 years.
Predeceased by: husband, Albert T. Grasso. Surviving her are: sons, Albert and his wife Phyllis of Hammonton, Allan, also of Hammonton, Gary and his wife Barbara of Centreville, Va.; sister, Evelyn D’Amico and her husband Angelo “Jake” of Hammonton, Theordora “Teddi” Kennedy of Haddonfield; grandchildren, Ryan, Sean, Katherine, Michael, Thomas Grasso, Catherine Smith and her husband Brian, Caroline Rollins and her husband Michael; great-grandchildren, Gregory, Catherine; many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends attended a Mass of Christian Burial on March 10 at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church followed by burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Jean Maiale, 86, of Hammonton, died March 3, 2008, at Heritage Assisted Living.
Born in raised in Harrisburg, Pa., she moved to Philadelphia at age 19 where she worked at the Franklin Institute. She met and married her late husband Henry (Hank) C. Maiale Esq., who practiced law in Camden. They resided in Collingswood where she was active in the PTA and volunteered for the American Red Cross. In 1983, she moved to Hammonton but continued working in Collingswood at Marlene’s Dress Shop from which she retired in 1999. She spent her retirement years volunteering for the Wm. B. Kessler Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed dancing and loved animals and relaxing on the beach in Ocean City.
Predeceased by: parents, Ammon and Jennie Dampman Moyer. Surviving her are: daughter, Lisa Maiale-Howell and her husband Brian G. Howell Esq. of Hammonton; grandchildren, Meredith and Carl Howell.
Relatives and friends attended funeral services on March 7 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Collingswood. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
