St. Joe fought back in the second half, cutting the deficit to 10 a few times, but could not overcome the deficit. Marcus Pierce led with 14 points, as his playing time was limited by foul trouble. Slow starts are starting to become a habit for the Wildcats, who trailed Bridgeton 15-4 before rallying for a 70-55 win. Pierce scored a season-high 30 in the win. Beat Hammonton 57-43 again starting slowly before pulling away. Vineland was on Tuesday, Buena Thursday and at Bridgeton on Saturday. Hammonton Girls Basketball—Weather forced some postponements, so the Blue Devils only played once last week, defeating Bridgeton 66-48. INTERVIEW: Hammonton wrestling coach Dave Mauriello. IN NATIONAL SPORTS: Sixers/NBA—Beat Chicago and Houston last week, staying on top of the Eastern Conference. Joel Embiid with a 50-point game as he remains the favorite for MVP. Flyers/NHL—Flyers were back in action last week after more than a week shutdown due to COVID. Lost a shootout to the Rangers, 3-2, then played in Lake Tahoe last weekend against the Bruins. Phillies/MLB—Phils opened spring training, JT Realmuto broke his thumb, but should be back in action before the season opens. Eagles/NFL—Eagles finally trade QB Carson Wentz, shipping him to Indianapolis and former OC Frank Reich. Receive a third-round pick this year and second rounder next year that could turn into a first if he meets conditions. Not a bad haul for someone who had an historically poor season, typical of selling low. Birds take a $30 million cap hit, and still have some huge needs. Moves Jalen Hurts to the top of the depth chart. Might draft a QB at 6 or trade up. For Wentz, maybe a change of scenery helps get his career back on track.
