Angelina DiMeglio (nee Mortellite), 90, of Elm, N.J., passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a graduate of Hammonton High School and beauty school in Philadelphia, and then owned her own beauty parlor, Mortellite’s Beauty Shop in Hammonton. Angelina was truly the rock of her family. She embodied the phrase, “Behind every great man is a great woman” and was the quiet voice cheering everyone on in the background. She made Sunday dinners possible and was always supportive and proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a 4’11” spitfire, the maker of meatballs, pizzelles and cookies and an all-around Philadelphia sports fan (of course, the Phillies biggest fan). She loved her penny slot machines at Tropicana and spent many winters in Delray Beach, Fla. with her husband and friends. Always a Wildcats supporter while her children attended St. Joseph High School in Hammonton, you could usually find her on the sidelines in her red and white. She was part of the women’s auxiliary of the Elm Volunteer Fire Company. She loved visits from her family and hosting “The Seven Fishes” Christmas Eve at her home for many years. She always had a pot of coffee brewing no matter what time of day and enjoyed seeing family and friends. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the most joy.
She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, (Anthony DiMeglio Jr.) and her parents, Carmelo and Anna Mortellite (nee Gunderson) of Hammonton.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Michael (Carol) DiMeglio; sisters-in-law, Anna Mortellite and Veronica Mortellite.; her four children, Anthony III (Lynda), Robert (June), Jacqueline (Robert) Cappuccio and David (Nancy); her 12 grandchildren, Nicolette (Craig) Behm, Danielle (Gray) Shannahan, Kailee (Tim) Shields, Gina (Matt) Silvesti, Robert (Stef) DiMeglio Jr., Richard and Gabrielle DiMeglio, Melissa (Christopher) Yearicks, Robert (Danielle) Cappuccio, David Jr., Matthew and Brandon DiMeglio; her great-grandchildren, Avery and Madeleine Behm, Mallory Yearicks, Graham and Elle Shannahan, Christopher and Riley Silvesti, and Chloe Cappuccio. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A private funeral was previously held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Samaritan Hospice PO Box 71425, Philadelphia, PA 19176-1425 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
