HAMMONTON—According to Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel, police were dispatched to the Hammonton Middle School in the prime block of N. Liberty Street at 2:34 p.m. on March 2 in reference to a disorderly parent inside the lobby, Friel said.

“Daniel Murphy, 52, of Berlin was yelling at officers and school staff in an aggressive manner after being repeatedly told to desist,” Friel said.

Murphy was arrested, transported to police headquarters for processing and charged with disorderly conduct, Friel said. He was released pending a court appearance in Hammonton Joint Municipal Court, Friel said.

Friel said Class II Officer Alexandra Mardell was the arresting officer.

In other police news, an unwanted person arrest was made at 5:49 a.m. on February 22 on the 600 block of Pleasant Mills Road, Friel said.

The caller stated that their brother had broken into the home and was sleeping on the couch, Friel said.

Police encountered Steven Hackett, 41, of Egg Harbor City who was sleeping on the couch located in the basement of the residence, Friel said.

Hackett was placed under arrest, transported to police headquarters for processing and charged with the following criminal offenses: burglary and criminal trespass, Friel said.

He was transported to the Atlantic County Jail pending a court date in Atlantic County Superior Court, Friel said.

Friel said Officer Matthew Heiser was the investigating and arresting officer.
