Driver in vehicle without tires charged with DWI

HAMMONTON—Police arrested a woman after being notified that she was driving a vehicle on Bellevue Avenue that only had rims, and no tires, at 10:56 p.m. on August 28, Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel said.


The vehicle was first observed on the 300 block of Bellevue Avenue, Friel said. Police were notified of an erratic driver traveling southbound in the area of Tilton Street in a vehicle with no tires, traveling on its rims, Friel said.


Friel said Officer Travis Hoffman, when checking for the accused vehicle, observed a white Nissan Sentra cross over the center line and begin traveling southbound in the north lane of travel on Bellevue Avenue.


The vehicle passed Hoffman at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the intersections at Bellevue Avenue and Third Street as well as Bellevue Avenue and Egg Harbor Road, Friel said.


Friel said the vehicle was finally stopped on Route 54 near Mays Landing Road in Folsom.


Nikkiya James, 25, of Philadelphia, was arrested, taken into custody, transported to police headquarters and charged with the following offenses: eluding, driving while under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, disregarding of traffic control device, failure to exhibit registration, failure to possess a driver’s license and failure to possess her insurance card, Friel said.


Hoffman was the investigating and arresting officer, Friel said.
