David W. James



David W. James, 78, of Hammonton, N.J. passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.


David was born in Camden, N.J. and raised in Maple Shade and Collingswood. He graduated from Collingswood High School in 1962 where he was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. David was also a 1968 graduate of West Chester University. He was a teacher for over 30 years at Highland Regional High School and retired in 1999. While at Highland, David coached both cross country and track & field as well as being their athletic director. During his many years as a coach, he was inducted into the Highland Hall of Fame, South Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame and NJSIAA State Coaches Hall of Fame.


He is predeceased by his parents, Bruce and Nellie (nee Miller) James.


David is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sara Jean James (nee Stetson); his daughter, Kristen Mull and son-in-law Matt; brother, Richard James and wife Lynn; sisters, Diane Dapkey and husband Bruce; Nancy Snow and husband Bob; and brother-in law-Willis J. Stetson Jr. and wife Sally. He is the loving grandfather of Reagan, Aaron and Cooper Mull. He is the caring uncle to Kenneth, Vicki, Lindsey and Matthew.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. Third St. Hammonton, NJ 08037. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
