Florence Emily Kennedy

Florence Emily Kennedy, 93, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on May 20, 2021 with her family by her side.


“Effie” was born in North Bergen, N.J. on December 7, 1927, the daughter of Emma (Schmidt) and Svend T. Becker. She lived in Norwood and Dumont before retiring to Sweetwater, in 1992 with her beloved husband of 55 years, John A. Kennedy who predeceased her in 2003.


A Tenafly High School and Bergen Community College graduate, Effie was employed by the Vanguard Health System for 19 years while raising three children. She contributed her talents to the American Legion Auxiliary Post 272, Sweetwater Fire Department Auxiliary, The Egg Harbor City Historical Society and the Mullica Township Historical Society in the Pines.


She is survived by her children, Kathleen, Mary Amelia and John; her loving grandchildren, Kate (Ted), Henry (Carolina), Emily and Colton. The Smith sisters brought abundant joy when she became a great grandmother to Libby, Emma and Grace. Dearest longtime friends and neighbors were appreciated for their contributions to the fullness of her life.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Joseph in Stirling. Interment will follow at Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee. The family will greet friends on Monday, May 24, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, N.J.
