HAMMONTON—Hammonton High School’s football team hosted a pair of preseason scrimmages last week, taking on Sterling and Cherry Hill West.

The Blue Devils looked sharp in each scrimmage as they prepared for this week’s season opener at Absegami on August 27.

“There were some good things and some bad things. We’re very young, and the staff kind of anticipated that there would be some rough stretches tonight,” Hammonton coach Jim Raso said following the scrimmage against Sterling.

Hammonton lost several starters to graduation and is working many new varsity players onto the field for the first time.

“Experience is not something we have a lot of right now,” Raso said.

“Hopefully, the kids will pick things up quickly. I was happy with the way we played. Like I said, we made some mistakes, but I think the kids know now what they need to work on,” Raso said.
