HAMMONTON—Hammonton Little League’s 8-9-10-year-old softball All-Stars won the District 16 championship last week, sweeping two games from Northfield on July 10 at Hammonton Lake Park.

After dropping the opener of the district’s best-of-three game championship series at host Northfield 20-5 on July 9, Hammonton bounced back to take the second game of the series at home, winning 20-5.

That set up a winner-take-all final game that the local All-Stars won, 14-9.

The victory sends Hammonton to the Section 4 tournament which began earlier this week in Pennsville. Play will continue until the finals on July 17.

10U Baseball

Hammonton’s 8-9-10-year-old baseball All-Stars continued their pursuit of the District 16 championship last week, posting a pair of wins in the double-elimination finals tournament.

Hammonton opened with a 6-2 win against Northfield as Joe Baglivo pitched four scoreless innings and Colton Robinson closed out the win.

Colin Peeke went 4-for-4 in the victory and threw out a runner trying to steal second base.

In the semifinals, Hammonton edged Upper/Ocean City 7-6 to reach the finals, which were played on July 13. That game ended too late for this edition.

Junior Softball

Hammonton’s Junior Softball (13-14-year-old) All-Stars fell short of winning a title at the Section IV tournament last week in Pennsauken.

Hammonton, the District 16 champion, defeated Glassboro 15-5 in the opening round of the sectional tourney, then beat Barrington 17-7 to advance to the semifinals.

In that matchup, the All-Stars lost to Pennsville 9-8. Facing elimination, Hammonton fell a game short of the finals, losing to Franklin Twp. 12-2.
