HHS track sends 12 to Group 3 state finals

FRANKLINVILLE—A dozen Hammonton High School athletes will compete for state titles this weekend after turning in strong performances at the South Jersey Group 3 sectional meet held at Delsea Regional High School June 4 and 5.


Nine boys and three girls will represent Hammonton at the state group championships, June 11 and 12 at Pennsauken High School.


Junior Connor Wright will compete in two events this weekend. Wright earned a silver medal in the triple jump at sectionals, leaping 44-feet, 9-inches. He also placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 20-feet, 6.25-inches. The top six finishers in each event earn berths in the state finals.


Two of Wright’s teammates, Austin Hudak and Michael Dogostino, will compete in the state javelin finals.


Hudak won a silver medal last weekend with his throw of 160-feet, 4-inches. Dogostino placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 150-feet, 3-inches.


Two Blue Devils relay teams finished sixth overall at sectionals and will move on to the state championships.


Hammonton’s 4x800 relay team of Dom DeRose, Aiden Ellis, Fernando Flores and Brandon Martinez, all sophomores, posted a time of 8:52.63 seconds.


The Blue Devils’ 4x100 team, Dom Alber, DeRose, Ellis and Aaron LaSasso, finished sixth in 45.87 seconds.


For Hammonton’s girls team, senior Emily Dustman and sophomore Emma Peretti will each compete in two events at the state finals.


Dustman earned a silver medal in the long jump with a mark of 17-feet, 1-inch and was sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.04 seconds.


Peretti won a silver medal in discus with a throw of 113-feet, 2-inches, and was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 34-feet, 3-inches.


Also headed to the state finals is Carrigan Genovese, who finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.46 seconds.


Hammonton’s girls added four more top-10 finishes last week. Dustman was ninth in the 100-meter dash (12.90 seconds), and Jordyn Colasurdo was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.70). Emma Amilcare was ninth in long jump (15-feet, 4-inches) and Mia Bullaro placed seventh in javelin (91-feet, 7-inches).
