Obituary - Annabel Mitchell (nee Scaffidi)

Annabel Mitchell (nee Scaffidi), 92, passed away peacefully February 10, 2024 at home with her loving family by her side. Annabel was a lifelong resident of Hammonton. She graduated Hammonton High School in 1948, where she was a student athlete on the women’s basketball, field hockey and tennis teams. She went on to work in a series of jobs including Advertising Director for the Hammonton News and Saleswoman at the Ideal Clothing Co. Annabel became Municipal Welfare Director for the town of Hammonton in her ‘70s and was deeply committed to her role in supporting those in need. Annabel was also an energetic volunteer for many organizations throughout her life including her children’s schools, her parish churches, Kessler Memorial Hospital and many other civic and philanthropic causes. She enjoyed many hours with her friends at the Canoe Club.


Her happiest role was that of wife, mother and grandmother, at which she excelled. She was full of energy always supporting and encouraging her family to pursue whatever goals they set no matter how challenging they were. She laughed easily, had great style, was a fantastic cook, loved her garden, games of chance and cards and animals. She was a person of deep faith.


Annabel is predeceased by her husband, Richard E. Mitchell; her son, David E. Mitchell; her siblings, Catherine Lane and Anthony Scaffidi; and parents, Mary (nee Jarolle) and William Scaffidi. Surviving are her daughters, Janice Mitchell Mintz (Robert) of Pennington, N.J. and Judith Mitchell Bowley of Medford, N.J. She is the loving grandmother of Daniel (Tricia), Elizabeth and Cameron Mintz and Jacob and Steven Bowley. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Carolyn Shaffer.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation Friday, February 16, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:45 a.m. all at St. Mary of Mt.
