HAMMONTON—A local man was charged with driving while under the influence (DWI) when the white Tesla he was driving left E. Pleasant Street and struck the front of a residence at 5:02 a.m. on May 22, Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel said.

“There was a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle striking a porch of a house on the 200 block of E. Pleasant Street,” Friel said.

Officer Kyle Ambrozaitis responded to a call of a motor vehicle crash and observed a white Tesla resting on the porch of a residence, Friel said. The driver, Ernesto Arevalocondo, 22, of Hammonton stated that his Tesla would not come to a complete stop, Friel said.

Ambrozaitis could detect the smell of alcoholic beverage emanating from Arevalocondo’s breath and person, Friel said.

He refused medical treatment and was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, Friel said. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and released as per John’s Law awaiting an appearance in Hammonton Joint Municipal Court on the following charges, Friel said: driving while under the influence, refusal to submit to breath testing, reckless driving, careless driving, failing to stop at a stop sign, unsafe window glazing and failing to maintain lane of travel.

Friel said Ambrozaitis was the investigating and arresting officer.

This report is comprised of arrests and investigations made by the men and women of local enforcement. All suspects and arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
