HAMMONTON—The Hammonton Hawks claimed two Jersey Shore Youth Football League (JSYFL) championships last week, winning junior varsity and varsity titles at William T. Capella Field.

The JV Hawks held on to defeat the Somers Point Sharks 7-6 in their title game.

After falling behind to Somers Point 6-0, Hammonton took the lead on a Santino Marrero touchdown catch.

An onside kick allowed the Hawks to retain possession and they were able to run out the clock for the win.

In the varsity game, Michael Scibilia scored three touchdowns as Hammonton cruised to a 38-8 victory against the Linwood Panthers.

Scibilia’s first score put the Hawks ahead 6-0, and in the second quarter Rocco Giacobbe connected with Stephen Ruhf for a touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead.

Linwood scored on a long run late in the half, but in the third quarter, Scibilia’s second touchdown gave Hammonton a 22-8 lead.

Another Scibilia score early in the fourth quarter stretched Hammonton’s lead to 30-8 and Michael Patrick put an exclamation point on the win when he ran back an interception for a score late in the game.
