HHS runs well at Atlantic County meet

HAMMONTON—The Atlantic County Cross Country Championships returned to Hammonton Lake Park for the first time since 2016 on October 12, with Mainland winning the girls team title and Egg Harbor Twp. taking home the boys championship.


Mainland’s Sofia Day won her third-straight county championship, finishing the course in 17:14. 38. Egg Harbor Twp.’s Cam Koryga was the boys champion, posting a time of 15:49.85.


For host Hammonton, Sean Fudala was the top finisher among Blue Devils boys runners, placing 11th overall with a time of 16:31.72. Matt Martino finished on Fudala’s heels, taking 12th place in 16:34.33.


Also running or Hammonton were Jacob Scarpato (17:52.11), Andrew Hoover (17:57.24), Jeffrey Sole (18:31.36), Justin Prince (18:49.71) and DJ Vinciguerra (18:51.40).


Seven Hammonton girls ran in the championship meet, with Natalie Claus placing 12th with a time of 20:03.33.


Ava Salita (21:05.01), Julianna Ruhf (23:46.97), Jillian Ott (24:16.31), Journe Lucas (25:10.90), Kaitlyn Falconi (26:38.96) and Kailynn Stettler (27:25.71) also competed for the Blue Devils.


In the junior varsity race, Lacie Thompson (25:30.31), Maria Medina (25:45.16) and Ilema Sinon (28:18.68) ran for Hammonton’s girls, while Justin Vivadelli (19:59.35), Tomas Brennan (20:26.79), Alex Brennan (20:31.85), Sean Heinz (20:57.80), Eddy Chen (25:21.06) and Felix Ordonez Diaz (27:14.74) competed.


On October 19, Hammonton will run at the Cape Atlantic League championships.
