It appears as if Spring has finally arrived and it’s a welcome change. As I have spoken about in my previous letter to the editor the June primary is in full bloom.
After nearly two months of lawsuits and litigation the Clerks across the state were finally able to but everything into perspective and move on with the creation of Vote By Mail ballots and begin the process. To say that at times it was challenging that would be an understatement. It appeared at times that each time a step was taken forward there were two backwards. When the ruling from the Federal Court was given that really wasn’t the answer. Everyone felt as if the answer was for both parties but we found out in a short time it was only for Democrats. So with that the County Clerk’s were soon sued by Republicans to also do away with the line.
The original court decision was upheld. These court actions cost the Clerk’s valuable time as well as money being spent on representing government officials. Now that this is now behind us the creation of ballots, ballot faces (for machines) and sample ballot designs have commenced. The schedule to get each done will be tight at best. Rest assured that all time lines and statues have been or will be met. For those that Vote My Mail, all ballots have been mailed. The new design is block style and is extremely easy to read. The candidates will be listed by office instead of a line. Those that are endorsed by their county party, will have that party slogan above their name. The voting machines will be laid out in a very similar fashion.
Please take time to review your sample ballot prior to going to the polls and vote.
Remember that for the upcoming Primary there will be five days of Early Voting with seven locations around Atlantic County.
All of those locations as well as hours of operation are listed on my website:
www.atlanticcountyclerk.org. Election Day for the Primary will be on Tuesday, June 4. To find your polling location it will be listed on your sample ballot. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please make every effort to vote. If you have questions please feel free to contact our office at (609) 625-4011.
