HAMMONTON—Get ready to witness a unique spectacle this Sunday, July 14, as Hammonton plays host to the inaugural “Running of the Sandwiches” event.


Scheduled to kick-off at 4 p.m., this quirky competition will unfold in the heart of Hammonton at the intersection of Cottage Avenue and Third Street, promising an afternoon of culinary excitement and community fun.


Organized by the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society and Sons of Italy, the event is a light-hearted celebration of the town’s rich cultural heritage and culinary prowess. Four iconic sandwiches, each representing a cornerstone of Hammonton’s renowned “Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel,” will vie for the title of champion in the coveted “Sandwich Bowl.”


Among the contenders are the hearty red roast beef sandwich, the savory sausage and peppers sandwich, the classic meatball sandwich, and the flavorful roast pork and broccoli rabe sandwich. These legendary sandwiches aren’t just competing for glory—they’ll be racing down the streets, cheered on eagerly by locals and visitors alike.


Families are encouraged to bring their kids to meet the sandwiches up close after the race, making it a delightful outing for all ages. Cheer on your favorite sandwich and enjoy an exceptional family outing.


The atmosphere promises to be festive, including an opportunity for those in attendance to partake in a spaghetti dinner at the Sons of Italy Lodge from 1 pm to 7 pm. For just $15 per person.
