Aurelio Sassano, 87, formerly of Hammonton, N.J. passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, August 1, 2021 in New Port Richey, Fla.
Born to Luciano and Angela (nee DiMartino) on August 14, 1933 in Casaluce, Italy, Aurelio was the youngest of seven siblings, Ursula, Giuseppe, Guido, Eugenio, Enrico and Emilia all predeceased. He worked on the railroad and as a tailor.
In 1964, he immigrated to America with his wife Maria Pia (nee Intravaia) and infant daughter and became proud naturalized citizens. He worked for Kessler Clothing Factory as a tailor. He later worked for Leesburg Prison and Trenton State Prison as a sewing instructor for more than 15 years until he retired in 1995. In his spare time, he loved working in the garden growing vegetables and sharing with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and playing scopa especially with his grandchildren. He worked hard to provide a stable foundation for his family which taught them an invaluable lesson that will never be forgotten. He was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish-St. Joseph Church.
He is predeceased by his wife, Maria Pia (nee Intravaia).
Surviving are his son, Luciano Sassano and his wife Jennifer of Lutz, Fla. and his daughter, Angela Angelillo of Galloway, N.J; and his loving grandchildren, Nicholas Brady and fiancé Jamie Mihalecz, Brianna Brady, Giovanni, Nico and Luca Sassano and many loving nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Italy.
Family and friends are attended his viewing Monday, August 9 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Marinella Funeral Home, 102 N. Third St. Hammonton, NJ 08037. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish – St. Joseph Church Third & French St. Hammonton, N.J. Burial followed at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 124 S. First Road Hammonton, NJ 08037.
