Giuseppe Costa

Giuseppe Costa, 91, of Hammonton died unexpectedly on Saturday January 2, 2021 at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Galloway.

Born to Giovanni and Concetta (nee Tomasello) on January 18, 1929 in Castanea Delle Furie, Sicily, Italy, Giuseppe was the youngest of four siblings, Mattia, Nunzio and Giovanni, all predeceased. He worked as a lumberjack (boscaiolo) and attended to the family farm.

In 1963, he immigrated to America with his pregnant wife Stefana (nee Ingemi) and two young children and became proud naturalized citizens. During the day he would work for Kessler Clothing Factory as a tailor and presser. At night he attended school to further his education. He later joined the Laborers Union Local 172 and worked at the Atlantic City Race track for 15 plus years until he retired in 1994. He was known to so many as a local handyman who helped so many families, friends and neighbors throughout the Hammonton area. In his spare time, he loved working in the garden growing vegetables and sharing the fruit of his labor with family and friends. In his younger years, he also enjoyed playing the bagpipes, wine making, ice fishing, casino trips and drinking espresso during visits with friends. When relatives visited from Italy, he would enjoy taking them on road trips to different parts of the country. He was a proud member of St. John’s Society and this community. He worked hard to provide a stable foundation for our family which taught us an invaluable lesson that will never be forgotten.

He is predeceased by his wife, Stefana (nee Ingemi).

Surviving are his three sons, Giovanni Costa and his wife Anna Marie Borreca of Sunrise, Fla., Santo Costa and his wife Virginia of Hammonton and Nunzio Costa of Hammonton; his two daughters, Concetta Greiner and her husband Andrew B. Greiner of Sunrise, Fla. and Nunziatina Neals and her husband Michael A. of Sweetwater; and his loving grandchildren, Joseph and Julian Costa, Stephanie Greco and Sam Costa, Carina Costa, Michael Jones, Payge and Arielle Neals.
