Obituaries


L. Leon Rubba

L. Leon Rubba, 64, of Hammonton passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Born in Philadelphia he was a lifelong resident of Hammonton. Leon was retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 825. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tinkering with anything that had a motor. He was Chef of the House. He loved cooking the Thanksgiving turkey, and the infamous Christmas gravy aka (anchovy gravy) for the capellini. Leon loved all kinds of football, Hammonton High School, College and the NFL, and his snowmobile trips to Old Forge, NY and Canada. Every winter Leon couldn't wait for snow. His biggest enjoyment was taking out his quad to plow the driveway and clearing his neighbor’s sidewalks on N. Packard Street.


He was predeceased by his parents, Marie and Leon Rubba.


Leon is survived by his wife, Cindy (nee McCann); his daughters, Dezirae (Fred Kuhn) and Lexie (Chris Dixon); his sister, Leah Rubba - Lazarus (Michael Lazarus); his brother-in-law and fishing partner, Tom McCann (Terry); father and mother-in-law, Tom and Marge McCann; his aunt, Christina Wuillermin and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.


A viewing was held on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. - 12: p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish Church of St. Joseph's, 226 French Street in Hammonton, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery, 124 S. First Road in Hammonton.
