Obituary

Joyce E. Cappuccio

Joyce E. Cappuccio, 88, a lifelong resident of Hammonton, N.J. passed peacefully at her home on October 20, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Minnie (Elliott) Penza and a graduate of Hammonton High School (Class of 1953), where she was active in sports. Joyce loved farming. Like many area teenagers of that time, she spent her summers working on local farms. She was co-owner of William Cappuccio & Sons farm, which raised fruits and vegetables in Hammonton for nearly five decades. She was actively involved with Jersey Fruit Cooperative for a number of years. Joyce also worked as a substitute teacher at Hammonton High School in the early 1970’s. In addition to farming, Joyce enjoyed antiques, good food, cooking for friends and family (especially Easter ham pies and the traditional seven fishes Christmas Eve dinner), and all Philadelphia sports teams. She was also the most wonderful and loving mother and grandmother a person could ask for.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, William Cappuccio who passed away on September 17, 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Gina Donato of Hammonton; son, Louis (Elinor) of Hammonton; son, Michael (LeeAnn) of Hammonton; son, Bill of Des Moines, Iowa; and granddaughter, Desiree (Alex Delcourt) of Philadelphia. Joyce’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the extraordinary care providers who helped care for Joyce in her final years, Assel, Barb, Eliso, and Gloria. The family would also like to extend special thanks to their friends Barbara, Diana, and Debbie for their loving support; to wonderful Nurse Practitioner, Becky Smith for her unfailing assistance; and to the amazing visiting nurses from Redeem Health Home Care and Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, October 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Church, 285 Rt 206, Hammonton, N.J. It was preceded by a visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. Burial was private. Those who were unable to attend the services, please keep Joyce in your prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joyce’s memory to St. Mary of Mt.
