Obituary- Anita DeVries

Anita DeVries

Anita DeVries (nee Berenato), 84, of Hammonton, N.J. passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024 with her loving family by her side. Anita was born and raised in Hammonton where she lived her whole life. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School class of 1957 and then went on to work at Whitehall-Robbins until its closure.

Anita’s love for her family knew no bounds. Her door on Walnut Street was always open to her family and friends, as well as any one in need at any time. Anita had a passion for taking care of people and was happiest when her home was filled with family and friends. Her greatest joy was when her family were all together around the table enjoying the delicious meals she prepared. Her fondest memories are of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Festival where she volunteered at the food stands from a very young age and then continued to bring her grandchildren each year. She also loved “taking a ride down the road” to play the slots, traveling to Colorado to visit her nieces and to Florida to visit her family and friends.

She is predeceased by her sons, Norman W. DeVries and Christopher L. DeVries; her sister, Josephine Vohl; and her parents, Frank J. and Katherine (nee Schipani) Berenato. Anita is survived by her daughter, Denise Hendrickson; and her sons, John DeVries and Frank DeVries. She is the loving grandmother of Patrick DeVries, Jason DeVries, Shana (Michael) Deininger, Michael DeVries, Amanda DeVries, Matthew Dreher, Michael Zucconi, and Alexis DeVries. She will be sadly missed by many great-grandchildren, especially Kaylyn and A.J., along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with funeral services to follow all at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N Third St. Hammonton, NJ 08037.
