Several Blue Devil girls earn a trip to the state finals

FRANKLINVILLE—Mitra Sampson qualified for the state championships in two events, leading a group of Hammonton High School athletes who will be competing for state titles this weekend after qualifying at the South Jersey Group 3 sectional meet on May 31-June 1 at Delsea Regional High School.


Sampson, a sophomore thrower, placed fourth in shot put and fifth in discus to qualify for the state finals. The top six finishers in each event advance.


Sampson’s throw of 38-feet, 8-inches was second-best in Hammonton history and fourth at last week’s meet. In discus, Sampson threw 119-9 to earn fifth place and the fourth-best throw in Hammonton history.


Joining Sampson at the state finals this weekend at Delsea will be Juliana Dogostino, Lasyah Johnson, Corinne Egan, Kylie Kozlowski, Rachel Nartey and Ilianna DeJesus.


Dogostino was third in high jump, clearing 5-feet, 2-inches.


Johnson set a new school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.57, earning a fourth-place finish.


Kozlowski was sixth in the long jump with a mark of 16-feet, 10.25-inches.


Egan earned a trip to states in three events. She was fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.62 seconds), sixth in the 200 meters (26.39) and was a part of the 4x100 team, joining Johnson, Nartey and DeJesus to place fifth in 51.28 seconds.


In sprint events, Nartey ran the 100 meters in 13.61 seconds and Johnson was seventh in the 200 (26.50) while DeJesus had a time of 28.30.


Egan ran the 400 meters in 1:00.29 and Obafumi Sinon finished in 1:12.65. In the 800-meter run, Jenna Vivadelli (2:30.67), Julianna Ruhf (2:49.10) and Kaitlyn Falconi (3:04.10) competed for Hammonton.


Distance races saw Vivadelli complete the 1,600 meters in 5:41.30, Natalie Clauhs post a time of 5:50.1 and Angelina Cortellessa finish in 6:49.37.


Clauhs ran the 3,200 in 12:25.06.


In the 100 meter hurdlers, Hailee Keubler (17.49) Nartey (17.54) and Aaliyah Harris (19.39) ran for Hammonton. Ava Salita had a time of 1:13.51 in the 400 hurdles and Jess Shinske (1:15.23) and Hannah Salita (1:15.88) also competed.


Ava Salita cleared 4-feet, 8-inches in high jump and a long jump of 14-5.


Dogostino had a long jump of 15-10.5 and triple jump of 32-7.75, while DeJesus had a mark of 28-9.5 in triple jump.


Dogostino had a javelin throw of 85-4. Alyssa Orsino threw 73-10 and Kozlowski had a mark of 71-6.


In discus, Gabriela Stevenson threw 93-10 and Orsino’s mark was 80-3.


Stevenson’s mark in shot put was 27-2.5 and Orsino threw 23-8.75.
