Three Devils headed to Meet of Champions

PENNSAUKEN—Three Hammonton High School athletes are headed to this week’s Meet of Champions after turning in strong performances at the State Group 3 Championships last weekend at Pennsauken High School.


Austin Hudak, Michael Dogostino and Connor Wright each earned spots at the Meet of Champions (MOC) placing among the top eight finishers in their respective events at the state championships.


Hudak earned a bronze medal in the javelin, throwing 162-feet, his best mark of the season. The Atlantic County champion will be joined at the MOC by his teammate, Dogostino, who placed fourth in the event with a throw of 158-feet, 8-inches.


Wright competed in two events at the state championships, earning a trip to the MOC in the long jump where he placed eighth with a mark of 20-feet, 11.75-inches.

The junior also competed in the triple jump, finishing 11th at 40-feet, 10.25-inches.


A pair of Hammonton relay teams ran at the meet. The 4x100 team of Dom Alber, Domenic DeRose, Wright and Aaron LaSasso placed 16th overall with a time of 45.53 seconds.


The Blue Devils 4x800 team of DeRose, Aidan Ellis, Fernando Flores and Brandon Martinez, finished 22nd with their time of 9:02.37.


Three Hammonton girls competed at last week’s state championships.


Emily Dustman placed 10th in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 26.48 seconds. Dustman also finished 16th in the long jump with a mark of 15-feet, 5-inches.


Emma Peretti was 11th in the discus throw at 105-feet, 5-inches and placed 18th in the shot put at 31-feet, 1-inch.


Also for Hammonton, Carrigan Genovese finished the 100-meter hurdles in 17 seconds, good for 15th in the preliminaries of that event.
