Stingrays swim well at Raccoon Valley

MULLICA HILL—The Hammonton Stingrays continued their summer swim season last weekend, falling at Raccoon Valley 374-188.


The Stingrays sent 44 swimmers to last weekend’s meet, while the host Masked Bandits sported a squad of more than 100 swimmers.


In 48 individual events, Hammonton had 15 first place finishes, 15 second place winners and eight swimmers finish third. Among the 19 relay events, the Stingrays won seven. The Stingrays saw 31 swimmers improve their times in 54 events.


Individual winners included Glyza Canovas (2 events); Giovanni Catania (2); Massimo Catania (3); Dominic Cushinotto (2); Bryan Falciani (1); Jordan Fatato (2); Everly Husta (1); and Evan Kiss (2).


Hammonton swimmer Raymond Murphy, 6, moved up from the kickball squad and made his debut in a competitive event, swimming the final 25-meter leg of the 8 and under medley relay.


Canovas won the 15-18 100 freestyle and the 50 backstroke, while Massimo Catania was a winner in the 15-18 100 individual medley and 50-meter breaststroke. He also won the 50 butterfly.


Cushinotto was first in the 8 and under 25-meter freestyle as well as the 25-meter butterfly. Falciani won the 9-10 25-meter butterfly, while Fatato was first in both the 9-10 25-meter butterfly and 50-meter freestyle.


Husta won the 8 and under 25-meter freestyle. Kiss won the 11-12 100 individual medley and the 50-meter freestyle.


Giovanni Catania won two events, taking first in the 13-14 50-meter backstroke and the 50-meter butterfly.


In freestyle relay races, the Stingrays 8 and under female team of Vera Birnbaum, Elizabeth Nees, Jessica Duarch and Everly Husta won, as did the male team of Kellen Frankel, Leo Murphy, Brennen Kiss and Dominic Cushinotto.


The girls 9-10 team of Julianne DeKlerk, Jordan Fatato, Kendall Husta and Elizabeth Molino won, as did the 11-12 team of Margaret McCloud, Elaina Chesbro, Kayla Cushinotto and Isabella Falciani.


The mixed 13-14 team of Evan Kiss, Andrew Pyfrin, Harrison Kiss and Giovanni Catania won its race, while the girls 15-18 team of Analiese Bova, Isabella McCloud, Isabella Mazzochette and Glyza Canovas also won.


Finally, the mixed 200 freestyle team of Kyle Muller, John Paul Mazza, Joseph Zawrotny and Massimo Catania won the 15-18 race.


Earning second place finishes for Hammonton were: Joey Zingrone, Giovanni Catania, Glyza Canovas, Bryan Falciani, Isabella Falciani, Kyle Muller, Evan Kiss, Kylie Short, Leo Murphy and Kendall Husta.


Third place finishers included: Isabella Falciani, Kyle Muller, Brennen Kiss, Julianne DeKlerk, Casey Schulz, Harrison Kiss and Kayla Cushinotto.


The Stingrays are idle this week for the Fourth of July holiday and will return to the pool on July 10 when they host the Elmer Sharks.
